THE ILLINOIS HUMANITIES COUNCIL DEBUTS THE NEWEST ISSUE OF DETOURS, THEIR ON-LINE MAGAZINE

CHICAGO -- The Illinois Humanities Council has devoted the newest issue of its on-line magazine, Detours, to humor. Contributors were asked not just to write a funny article, but rather to explore humor as a genre or topic. The result is an issue that delves into a diversity of humor-related topics -- from Illinois humor to dark comedy to social satire.In this latest issue of Detours, find out whether there is such a thing as "Illinois" humor and how styles of humor vary across the state; experience the satire of cartoonist Nicole Hollander through her comic strip as she exposes the state of our civil liberties post September 11th; journey back through the evolution of Second City, its people, its style, and its impact; and, explore the place for humor in todayís theater and society with playwright Rebecca Gilman.
The IHCís website, Prairie (www.prairie.org), provides visitors with a detailed overview of the IHC, its events and grants programs. On this interactive site, one can easily download information about IHC grants, its True Learning, True Teaching Seminars, and the Road Scholars speakers bureau. Visitors can surf links about Illinois history and culture; plan Illinois outings by viewing the Events Calendar; and buy books through Ex Libris, the on-line bookstore affiliated with Barnes and Noble.
