West Chicago, Morrison, Macomb, Mount Vernon, and Danvillewill participate as host communities
The Illinois Humanities Council has announced that the communities of West Chicago, Morrison, Macomb, Mount Vernon, and Danville have been selected as the host communities for "Key Ingredients: American Food Traditions." Through a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C, the Illinois Humanities Council is bringing this portable 5-kiosk display, designed especially for small museums and historical societies with limited access to traveling exhibitions due to space and cost limitations, to Illinois. "Key Ingredients: American Food Traditions" looks at the rich regional food traditions found across the United States, focusing on the diversity of foods and customs associated with them. The exhibition will tour five Illinois communities from May 2002-Februay 2004.
In September, the Illinois Humanities Council invited smaller museums, libraries, and historical societies in towns of fewer than 20,000 residents to apply to host the Smithsonian travelling exhibition. Host communities will plan and implement public humanities programs during the exhibition that will encourage residents to explore their communityĆs food traditions.
