Archeology Day

With more than 10,000 years of human occupation and thousands of recorded archeological sites in a 4,000 square-mile area, the region surrounding the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers has often been called "The Nile of North America." Come discover the fascinating story of ancient Illinois during Archeology Day. Activities include tours of a 2000-year-old excavation site, a flintknapping demonstration, museum exhibits, information booths, kids activity area, and more.


The Center for American Archeology is in the village of Kampsville, located in Calhoun County on the banks of the Illinois River on the East side of Route 100 (Great River Road).
